If I Planted a Garden…

I read an article where reference was made to the pandemic as plague daze!  A plague is describe as a contagious bacterial disease, an epidemic disease causing a high rate of mortality. The word daze means, unable to think clearly or act normally due to injury, shock, bewilderment, fatigue, etc. Albert Camus writes: ‘Pestilence is so common, there have been as many plagues in the world as there have been wars, yet plagues and wars always find people equally unprepared. Have you been caught unprepared with the outbreak of this virus?

I have been caught unprepared with the outbreak of the virus and during this time I have pondered about so many things. Thoughts that come to mind are: What if my life was a garden? How will I tend to it when it’s overtaken with the unexpected pestilence? If I planted a garden full of faith, hope and love, what would my life reflect? With these thoughts I think of a hymn that I have often heard sung by our Sunday School children ”If I planted a garden” lyrics by Sally DeFord:

If I planted a garden, if I carefully sowed
If I nourished each tiny seed
If I tended it well and helped it to grow
What a beautiful harvest I’d reap

In my life, like a garden, there are seeds to be sown
I must choose with the greatest care
Planting only what’s good, so I can be sure
Only beautiful things will grow there

I am planting my garden every day of my life,
And the harvest is mine to keep
If I plant seeds of faith, of honor and truth
What a beautiful harvest I’ll reap

So when it comes to planting my garden, I will have to start with faith. This is the basis of my existence. Planting faith in my life’s garden and experiencing the first few shoots of new growth brings hope. Positive thoughts can be likened to new growth from seed germination, growing constantly upward.

If I tended it well only beautiful things will grow. In this time it will also give me the strength to get rid of the unwanted weeds overtaking my life’s garden. The weeds I compare to my negative thoughts that wants to take over my mind and dwindle my hope. I also have to be aware of life “toxins” that can make my faith weak. I have to tend my garden to get rid of less palatable and unpleasant thoughts. I hope that there will be more positive growth and that I can continue keeping the soil fertile to reap the rewards of love and contentment.

I want to continue to hope for a better and prosperous future. I know that I can get rid of the negative thoughts of judging others by applying essential fertilisers – faith, hope and love – to allow growth. I will continue attending to my life’s garden to allow it to overflow in faith, hope and love. I find these thoughts comforting and it helps me cope in this time. What is good for your garden?

I believe in God, love and life! Married to my friend, mentor and rock. We have been blessed with two beautiful girls. My personal journey provides opportunities for me to empower individuals to lead better lives. I have had a real desire to work with people for a long time and have always been fascinated with human behaviour and understanding how the mind works.
I love the following quote by H. Jackson Brown, Jr. “Remember that children, marriages and flower gardens reflect the kind of care they get”

A Not So Secret Garden

I live in a not so secret garden
Along the path least traveled,
Quite unlike the other world
A world that has become unraveled.

A garden of peace and harmony
Being different does not matter here,
All creatures, big and small, living together
Unlike the other world, they do not live in fear.

Together we live the hand that Fate has dealt us
Not sure, or dwell, on our final destiny,
But live to enjoy the moment, the hour, the day
That is what life is about, don’t you see.

So into the not so secret garden I will venture
Along the path least traveled,
To find love, understanding, to follow one’s dreams
Unlike the other world unraveled.

Magnificent,
Life is a journey…
life is a garden of which we are the interior guardian.
I have had a vegetable garden for 15 years, I believe that my greatest satisfaction is to design the vegetable garden.
Every year is a new blank page, like our days and nights.
A garden stabilizes, a vegetable patch at the same time that it forces you to organize your thought, allows you to give free rein to your creativity. My vegetable garden looks like me, it sweats what I am.
He is simple, generous, unpretentious, and he gives me so much. I’m lucky I have a garden, and I cherish my luck.
Thank you for your article, and the poem is so beautiful…
Have a good day

I appreciate your response, it gives me hope to continue with my vegetable garden. I have a vegetable garden outside my yard on the sidewalk and the reason for this is so that anyone can help themselves to it. My garden is very young, only 3 years old and I’m constantly learning how to plant and hoping for fruitful seeds. It’s not easy and I sometimes look at it and feel that I urgently need to revamp it but unfortunately it’s not always possible just as everyday life. Your message have given me new hope for my actually garden but I will definitely apply it also to life in general, it is very applicable, thank you so much 😊

Thanks to you, the gardens teach us a lot about ourselves and also about our limits. Right now I’m having trouble devoting time to my vegetable garden, but fortunately and inexplicably my second daughter still wants us to go to work there, to move forward in the organization of the preparations …
So I have to motivate myself. This year I have a lot of work in my workshop, I engrave the crystal. And suddenly my rural activities are a little reduced;) I encourage you to make your garden, I too had started with 6 small squares, and then little by little I broadened my ambitions …
This year for example I’m not going to bother, I make 80% of tomatoes, we especially like tomatoes !!!!!
Thank you to you and have a nice day
