Farewell autumn, I say farewell as you remind me you not here to stay
I must say I enjoyed autumn a time for fall, falling of leaves
A time also to really listen, listening to the wind shaking down the leaves
As they hold on, holding on and hanging on that tree
I will surely miss your beautiful browns, yellow and reds
Reminding me of hope, renewal and growth
The trees blown down bare, almost naked
As we get thrown into winter, winter that’s often unexpected
My breath taken away as I gasp in the blistering winter air
So cold but thankfully we can generate some heat
Producing the warmth formed by fire or perhaps a hot stove
A cooking stove with steaming soups and stews
Creating that homely atmosphere
As we cuddle under blankets
Enjoying the love, the love from a very warm heart
Winter, a time to embrace the cold through the promise of warmer days to come
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 is so succinct in explaining the seasons of life:
“There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens:
a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,
a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.”
Enjoy your season!

Thank you for writing this heart-warming poem and sharing it with us. I especially liked how the lines about Autumn would gradually shorten to appear like they were ‘falling’ like the autum leaves. Also, nice use of repetition and alliteration 😊

I love that few verses out of Ecclesiastes – for some reason I’ve seen it multiple times this last couple of days 💌.
And love your poem – autumn is probably my favourite season, though the evenings are chilly, the days are mild and sunny … for me, this is the perfect timing for reflection.

Thank you for sharing you thoughts and lovely words!.. I not only enjoy the seasons but every day because each day is unique and once gone, will never come again…. 🙂
Until we meet again..
May flowers always line your path
and sunshine light your way,
May songbirds serenade your
every step along the way,
May a rainbow run beside you
in a sky that’s always blue,
And may happiness fill your heart
each day your whole life through.
